Dr.  Anagnostis Argiriou is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Applied Biosciences - Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. He graduated Biological Sciences with full honors and degrees. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology from Italy. From 1996 to 2003 he worked in the Center for Genetic Engineering (CEINGE Biotecnologie Avanzate) in Italy where he developed and improved gene therapy and molecular diagnostic protocols, but also participated in the sequencing program of the first plant genome.

The field of prevailing interests is the study of the genetic and epigenetic regulation of metabolic pathways in humans and plants related to nutrition, exploitation of genomic and proteomic technologies to improve qualitative traits in plants and animals, as well as the and nutritional characteristics. He has several years of teaching experience in academic institutions and is the author of numerous scientific publications on internationally reputed journals. In the last five years, he participated as coordinator or researcher in 23 European and National research programs. He is member in various scientific councils of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the Ministry of Health. Currently he holds the position of Deputy Director at INAB and Professor at the Aegean University.
