A few words about the actions of the project

For Greece, the flagship project ‘Graperoutes’ is a pioneer project of research and technological innovation to support the uniqueness of Greek wine products and the enhancement of their competitiveness. The promotion of the quality characteristics of the Greek grape varieties will be achieved with the cooperation of the scientific community and the countrys’ infrastructure. In addition, the development of wine identity of Greek products is sought based on the uniqueness offered by the geographical-environmental conditions of the country. The planning of the action includes the building of a strategic competitive advantage for the enforcement of added value and the strengthening of its outreach

Network goals

The National Network "Graperoutes" will focus on areas such as: genomic analysis and application of genomic technologies in domestic grape varieties to acquire their genetic identity, sustainable and effective plant protection of the vineyards, the utilization of the research results and the development of a digital data library available to Greek winemakers.
The scientific coordinator of the project is the Associate Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Stefanos Koundouras. The two-year project "Graperoutes" has three thematic sub-projects, which will deal with the genetics of the vine (coordinator: CERTH - INEV - Dr. Anagnostis Argyriou), the chemical organoleptic characterization of varieties-biosynthetic pathways-vinification (Agricultural University of Athens - Prof. George Kotseridis) and plant protection-microbiome (coordinator of the Agricultural University of Athens - Prof. Ioannis Vontas).
